Frequently Asked Questions
1. What are the overtime charges, assuming our non-dinner portion of the reception is longer than 5 hours?

There are no overtime charges, I will play from the moment your guests arrive until Midnight or 1am for the price you see on the website. Most weddings start around 4 or 5pm and end around Midnight or 1am, If your wedding is longer than that, we may have to talk but for the most part hours do not matter. (within reason)

2. What kind of breaks will you need during the evening?

I do not need any breaks at all during the reception. Unlike bands, Dee jays can play non-stop.

3. Is there any special equipment we will need to provide or request ahead of time?

I will not need any special equipment whatsoever. I may be able to use a banquet table 6' or 8' in length to put my CD cases on, depending on the size of the area I am setting up in, but I can do without if necessary.

4. What are your guidelines for deposit due date and payment due date?

Your deposit is due when you decide to book your date and you sign the contract. Once you book a date, all other clients are turned away for that date. Your balance can be made in payments ahead of time by check or you may pay the balance in cash the day of your wedding before the event starts. (or a combination of the two)

5. What is your Cancellation Policy?

If you cancel your date you lose the deposit. The only time you lose anything more than that is if you cancel at the last minute where it will be impossible for me to re-book the date. Keep in mind that once you book a date, I tell all other clients that I am unavailable for your date. These clients then move on to find another service and are lost potential revenue. Once you get a month or two away, the chances that any calls will come in are minimal as most people book a year in advance for weddings and at least 2-3 months in advance for any other event. So last minute is usually defined as anything within 90 days. If you cancel during this time, a last minute cancellation fee will be assessed in addition to the loss of the deposit.

6. Do you accept credit cards?

I can accept credit card payments through Paypal only. If you are familiar with Paypal, or have an account, you can use that option. Just let me know your email address and I can send you an invoice through the service.

7. Do you take guests' requests and can we make requests about activities to do throughout the evening?

I always take guest requests and I will go over your requests for music and other activities ahead of time so I know what you want and so you won't have to make requests the day of the event. I have sheets for you to fill out that we will go over a month or so before the wedding.

8. Do you make announcement or provide a microphone for speeches, etc?

Yes and Yes. I usually make announcements for the arrival of the bride and groom to the reception, the cutting of the cake, the toasts, the bride and groom dance, the wedding party dance, the bouquet toss and many other events. I can announce anything you need, and I have a wireless microphone available in the event someone else needs to make an announcement.

9. Our reception will likely last from about 5pm - 12pm, is that acceptable?

     Perfectly.

10. We can see that the system, in the picture, on your website, is very large. Would you need to use all of the speakers? I am not sure if the hall is large enough for that large of a system.

No worries. My system can actually be set up many different ways. I have two different light shows and many different speaker sizes. The picture I have on the main page of my web sight shows just how large we can go if necessary. I do all kinds of events from small gatherings to large festivals outside. Having the right equipment available for any size room or event is key to having a great sounding system. I usually will bring in just a little more speaker than I will need and then run it at 65% power. This ensures a great sound. Some Dee Jays play large rooms with little speakers and then have to run them full power which will often cause distortion in the sound.

11. Can you send us a demo tape or sample of your music?

To answer your question about a demo or sample of my music. I have never been a big fan of giving anyone a recording of me playing at another show as a means to help that person determine if they want to use my services or not. I have not been a big fan of that for one simple reason. Every show is different, every client, every crowd, every situation is completely different and a good dj knows how to read these situations, types of crowds, moods... and then plays accordingly. The kind of music I would play, the order I would play them in, or how loud, might all be completely different for you than it might be for someone else. Bands generally give sample tapes out because they can usually only recreate certain types of music and they want to let people hear how good they are at doing that. Dj's can play anything that has ever been made and the only thing that sets us apart are how good we are at knowing which songs to play and when to play them, again this is different at every show and can only be done right at the moment it happens. Even if you only want to hear how I talk, the problem would be the same. Some crowds demand a high energy personality, others require a subtle and classy personality. I tailor my style of talking, interaction with the crowd and music based on what I see at the event and on what the bride and groom have told me about themselves ahead of time. It is for this reason I do not make demo recordings for my mobile business.

If you have a question that was not answered here, please send an email to djbass@djbass.net and I will get back to you as soon as possible. Thank You!
